By replacing traditional hydraulic systems in military vehicles with systems with electrical actuators controlled using the Control System, many additional benefits can be achieved. One of the most important one is reduction of the system’s weight, which results from elimination of e.g. hydraulic liquid, pumps, hydraulic pipes and splitter, which additionally leads also to reduction of space required for these subassemblies. Furthermore, control of electrical units ensures higher precision and reduction of generated noise, in particular in the standby mode.
The Control System ZSS is a universal and multi-functional module used to control electrical systems connected to it by switching on/off relevant supply outputs.
Operation of the module can be program-defined depending on required functionality – e.g. it can be used to switch on, disconnect and control operating equipment such as: motors, actuators, heating & cooling elements, hoists and others, as well as in vehicle power supply units and equipment used to processes or stabilize power supply. It’s universal hardware is its biggest advantage because ZSS functionalities are determined by software which ensures the possibility of full customization of the unit’s operation to needs of controlled equipment.
CAN bus with additional galvanic isolation, is used for control of the unit, which allows the unit to operate in the environment with high electromagnetic interferences. ZSS module is equipped with two independent CAN busbars, due to which it can be controlled from two sources using two different communication protocols and different busbar rates. This provides the possibility to develop programmable operating modes and easier maintenance.
ZSS is cooled passively using radiator and convection cooling. This ensures noiseless operation of the unit, environmental protection, and most of all reliability. The unit is compliant with requirements of electromagnetic compatibility standards MIL-STD-461.
The module’s housing has been designed in a way ensuring installation of several ZSS modules next to each other on a common mounting bar. Thanks to this, it is possible add subsequent functionalities by adding subsequent modules depending on requirements which makes the options of utilizing the Control System practically unlimited.
